U.S. Soldier Stops Mass Shooting On Bridge By Ramming Gunman With His Car

A soldier stationed at U.S. Army Garrison Fort Leavenworth in Kansas is being hailed as a hero for stopping an active shooter. The 34-year-old soldier was sitting in traffic on the Centennial Bridge, which connects Kansas and Missouri, when he noticed a person stop their car in the middle of the bridge and start shooting.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was randomly firing at cars using a pistol and a semi-automatic rifle. The soldier jumped into action and rammed the shooter with his car, trapping the man underneath his vehicle.

The shooter struck at least two vehicles and injured one person. The victim and the suspect were taken the hospital and are in serious but stable condition.

Officials credit the soldier for saving countless lives by intervening before police arrived on the scene.

"He intentionally intervened using his vehicle to strike and injure the suspect who was actively shooting," Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens said. "Very likely, countless lives were saved by the person that intervened and helped."

Investigators have not determined why the suspect opened fire on the bridge.
